Darnell T. Williams, Founder and CEO

Williams brings over 25 years of education experience in a variety of settings: classroom teacher, curriculum writer, professional development trainer, entrepreneur, and adjunct professor. He has extensive training and expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies that promote culturally responsive and sustainable practices in support of equity, justice, and transformation. He is committed to the struggle for freedom for those who have been historically marginalized and denied equitable access to education, housing, and health care.

Currently, Williams is the Director of Professional Growth and School Culture in the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion with the Brockton Public Schools in Brockton, Massachusetts. He also teaches at Cambridge College in the Early Education Department.

Prior to working for the Brockton Public Schools, Williams was the Associate Director of Professional Development for the Department of Youth Services (DYS) at the Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) for a decade. In that role, he coordinated and facilitated the design, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive professional development program, aligned with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s High-Quality Professional Development standards. Prior to working at CES, he led the Education Quality Assurance Initiative in DYS at Commonwealth Corporation for three years in which he developed and implemented education quality assurance review teams for all 66 DYS schools throughout the state.

Williams was an adjunct professor for 25 years at the Urban College of Boston where he developed and taught a number of courses including general psychology; introduction to sociology; social problems; college writing 1; the modern Civil Rights movement; cultural aspects of families and children; and race, power, and class in the U.S. He continues to consult with schools, organizations, and companies, leading customized workshops focused on equity and transformation. Williams completed his master’s degree in teaching and learning at Harvard Graduate School of Education and his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Boston University.

Who We Are

DTW Equity Consulting (DEC) is a training and consulting company committed to education for social justice. Founded in 2021 by Darnell T. Williams, DEC partners with educators to achieve a greater social impact for improving classroom teaching and school leadership. Our services can be combined and tailored to meet your needs – from individual leadership development to larger-scale social change.

The goals of DEC are to…

  • Institutionalize diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies across the curriculum and foster a school culture that acts with courage in dismantling White supremacy culture and inequities
  • Transform classroom teaching by working with educators to decolonize curricular materials and teaching strategies that provide “mirror-images” of Black and Brown students’ experiences and identities throughout the curriculum as well as “windows” into other students’ cultures
  • Work collaboratively to create a school-wide learning community that integrates academic, social, and emotional development to support student success
  • Work with school leaders to strengthen facilitative management and leadership skills in culturally responsive and sustainable practices that support the school in becoming more anti-racist
  • Collaborate with educators on practices that support teacher effectiveness and student achievement
  • Work with educators to customize professional development and resources with practical strategies grounded in the values of equity, community, and civics to engage their students in real-world learning that prepares them to make positive contributions in school, work, and life

What They’re Saying

Darnell has been a deeply valued colleague, friend, and thought-partner for more than twenty-five years. Our collaboration began when Darnell was a participant in a course I was teaching on effective instruction and classroom management. From the outset, he was a passionate learner, deeply committed to the design and development of anti-racist instructional strategies and curriculum for the teachers whom he was mentoring as the Director of Induction for the Boston Teacher Residency Program. Over the years we have shared and discussed countless books, articles, and lectures focusing on social justice and racial equity. We talk about activities to build inclusive learning communities, instructional strategies, and curriculum to create classrooms in which all students feel visible and valued in their diverse identifies and experiences, and ways to encourage teachers and school leaders to strengthen their understanding of racism and anti-racist activism. Darnell is an educator whose mission has never flagged: to make schools places that inspire each and every student to strive for excellence.

A journey is called that because you cannot know what you will discover on the journey, what you will do, what you will find, nor what you find will do to you.
